Our Team
Our team of microbiologists is from a diverse background and they form the backbone of Viroxy to provide reliable and fast service.
When we first planned and established our laboratory, we had 2 microbiologists coordinating the tests and handling the entire operation. Our modest team has now grown to 7 highly qualified microbiologists with doctor, master and bachelor's degrees from reputable local and foreign institutions in various disciplines. Our team of competent and enthusiastic microbiologists uphold the highest standards and they are committed to serve you as an individual with unique needs instead of just another client.
Dr. Peter Cheong
Head of Microbiological Testing
Dr. Peter Cheong has been leading Viroxy for 6 years, following his Postdoc at the University of Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine, where he focused on recombinant anti-cancer proteins to combat breast and lung cancer. With a Ph.D. in Applied Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry from Lincoln University, New Zealand, and extensive experience ranging from developing bio-actives and crafting novel antibiotics for Japanese pharmaceuticals, Dr. Cheong continues to explore innovative ideas in demand with global manufacturers and test them with his team in Viroxy.
Outside the lab, Dr. Cheong is found at the other end of a leash, walking his adopted stray dog. Together, they’re working on her social skills, transforming her from a feisty street survivor into a friendly, tail-wagging companion. It’s a work in progress, but with the dog’s determination and a pocketful of treats, they’re making great strides. From stray to stay.

Mr. Hubert Yong Jun Fung
Virologist
Mr. Hubert Yong Jun Fung is a Virologist at Viroxy. Mr. Hubert graduated from Queen Mary University of London with an MSc in Medical Microbiology. He did his Bsc in Medical Biotechnology at Sunway University. His research project during undergrad had trained him well in proper cell culture techniques as well as cytotoxicity and numerous molecular assays. Fast forward to his postgrad, where he has learnt not only about tests for identifying bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites, but also about clinical symptoms and different types of antimicrobial treatments. He was also lucky enough to have exposure to prevention and control of communicable disease and laboratory management. This set of skills helped him a lot in his first job as a research assistant at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where he researched the effects of a known compound against the H1N1 virus and human coronavirus 229E.
